Outbreak Update: Yellow Maradol Papayas

July 24, 2017

The FDA, CDC and Maryland Department of Health (MDH) is investigating reports of two different strands of salmonella found in papayas. These reports are linked to Caribeña Maradol papayas from Mexico distributed by Grande Produce. However, Caribeña Maradol papayas do not account for all the reports. There have been 47 cases reported, leading to 12 hospitalizations and one death. 12 states are affected. All Caribeña Maradol papayas should not be eaten and should be thrown away.

The CDC recommends that consumers not eat, restaurants not serve, and retailers not sell.
